What is an Exotic Pet?
An exotic pet is any small companion animal that isn’t a cat or dog. This includes birds (even backyard chickens), reptiles, fish, amphibians, and small mammals like chinchillas or rabbits. These unique animals have anatomy and physiology distinct from cats and dogs, requiring specialized care and expertise.

We’re thrilled to announce that with the arrival of Dr. Jesse Lee, we can now offer dedicated exotic pet care at Sommerville! Dr. Jesse provides general medicine and surgery for many exotic species Monday–Wednesday, Fridays, and select Saturdays.

We care for:

Annual check-ups are vital for exotic pets, and rabbits should be vaccinated yearly against Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease.
